Dashkesan Zaylik-Alunite Mine

Dashkesan is the main ore region of Azerbaijan. The region’s iron ore deposits were known among the local population since the ancient times. Dashkesan region has both ore and mineral deposits. Besides iron ore deposits, this mining complex also contains vast deposits of cobalt and alunite ore. The largest alunite ore deposit “Zaylik” which has been in operation since 1960 is also located here. It is the largest alunite ore deposit in Europe. It is the main supplier of raw materials to Ganja Aluminium Plant’s alumina refinery operation as well as production of potassium based fertilizers and soda.
